Hip Hop Hooray - Easter is on its way!

Hip Hop Hooray - Easter is on its way!

I love Easter. It feels like a light, joyful opening after the long, cold, grey New England winter. This year the forecast calls for rain, but we will embrace the mood of the day and weave that same sense of freshness and renewal into our celebrations. I've rounded up a plan of what to wear, eat, sip & gift to help me get organized and perhaps to inspire your celebrations if you're in the planning zone too.

What I'm Wearing

A vintage Hermès scarf inspired my Easter look this year. Its soft pastels are feminine and fresh but it's grounded by its geometric patterning and hunter green border.

I am pairing it with a simple RL button down and a coordinating green satin skirt and Chanel ballet flats (for church) and my favorite levis once we get home. I'll throw on a woven cuff bracelet & my drop pearl earrings from Virtue jewelers.

We are hosting friends for an egg hunt, followed by an early dinner and cocktails. With rain expected, there will be wellies and ponchos by the door, and something festive in hand to keep spirits high!

What I'm Serving

This is my go-to for any special brunch. It requires quite a bit of chopping, but the flavors are complex and it makes the house smell incredible. We’ll serve it alongside hors d’oeuvres like chilled shrimp cocktail,  a Jennifer Aniston salad  and a charcuterie board from Boarderie.

For the main meal: baked ham (Phill’s department—I don’t eat meat), scalloped potatoes, and green beans.

For Easter dessert I'm whipping up a Carrot Cake, groundbreaking - I know.

I’ll pop Veuve in the morning & sip throughout the day (cue Biggie: “now we drink champagne when we thirst-ay”). It feels celebratory, a little fancy, and fun.

To keep things festive I am also preparing a Lavender Lillet Spritz  as a signature cocktail. I have yet to make it, but it feels perfectly aligned with the season - light, flowery and elegant in its simplicity. I'll do a kids version as well!

Easter Presents!

We let the Easter bunny do the filling of the baskets with a new stuffy, colored pencils, bubbles, chalk, chocolate etc. but we take advantage of the holiday to get some new outdoor toys for the children to have moving into the warmer months.

Georgie is getting his first scooter! Duke just started lacrosse and while I love playing catch with him, a rebounder will come in handy too! Millie is sizing up in bikes and Pip's starting Tee ball this Spring (he's basically been sleeping in his cleats in excitement).

Baskets!
I spent the last month weaving Easter baskets for my children. I'm using Cherry hardwood components and have commissioned ivory discs with each of their monograms in a deep Navy ink from my incredible scrimshander, Jade Gotauco.

I have three completed, and will hopefully finish them by Sunday - but have also resigned not to make myself crazy in order to do so. Each takes about 10-12 hours to complete. I know right now they are just as happy with CVS baskets and we have many easters ahead to enjoy them once they are finished.

I see these as heirlooms... so really what's the rush? (I ask myself over and over!)

You can check out the progress on Instagram in my story highlights, and I’ll share the finished baskets soon.

Whether you're celebrating the holiday or just enjoying these early days of Spring - I hope you have a wonderful weekend, wherever you happen to be spending it.

Warmly,
Katie
